On Monday, 1/25/2010, Sanford and Northview Fire Departments responded to a gas leak on Colon Road. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a company was doing demolition work at the General Shale Brick Plant and had broke a 2 inch gas line. Other units responding to the call included Sanford Police, EMS unit, Lee County Emergency Services, and NC Public Gas. Twenty-nine people responded to the call. Areas around the leak were monitored for gas levels. Pentair Pools was evacuated while the leak was stopped. Trains were stopped from passing through the area. The leak was shut off after about 45 minutes. There were no injuries related to this accident.
