COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT)

What is CERT?
CERT is a training program that prepares you to help yourself, your family and your neighbors in the event of a major disaster when emergency service personnel may not be able to reach you right away. The role of a CERT volunteer is to help others until trained emergency responders arrive.
What do CERT teams do in an emergency?
Under the direction of Lee County Emergency Services, CERT teams help provide critical support by giving immediate assistance to victims, providing damage assessment information and organizing untrained, spontaneous volunteers at the disaster site.
Benefits of CERT Training.
Initial CERT training takes 21 hours to complete and provides critical skills in emergency preparedness and response. Volunteers learn how to:
Identify and anticipate hazards
Manage utilities and extinguish small fires
Conduct light search and rescue
Apply basic medical techniques and set up medical treatment areas
Help reduce survivor stress
Disaster Prevention – It starts with YOU.
CERT is a Homeland Security initiative that actively involves everyone in making our communities safer, stronger and better prepared. No matter your age, no matter your physical condition we can all have a role in community preparedness. What role will YOU play?
